ABOUT

ABOUT

Sassify Zine CIC is an award-winning artist facilitator, educator, and curatorial platform luxuriating in queer art and sassiness.

We are the intersection of art, self-expression, and mental health, providing a platform for marginalized queer creatives to curate and promote LGBTQ+ representation in art, society, and culture.

Sharing diverse queer voices
remains at the forefront of our efforts to raise awareness, foster kinship, and create safe spaces for queer youth, those seeking asylum and the wider queer community through creative art workshops.

WHAT IS A ZINE?

WHAT IS A ZINE?

Yellowpattern.jpg

A zine (/’zi:n/zeen; is an abbreviation of fanzine, or magazine) They are usually produced in small circulation self-published works of original or appropriated texts and images often reproduced via photocopier.

They can be handmade, or professionally printed and can come in all shapes and sizes therefore the content will vary widely.

A zine is your chance to express your inner most thoughts. It is a chance for you to get creative even if you have never made a zine before.

MEET THE FOUNDER

MEET THE FOUNDER

Hello!

I'm Jason Kattenhorn, a freelance queer illustrator, artist facilitator, and educator. My work primarily focuses on digital illustration, but my true passion lies in collaging and zine making.

In 2016 I created Sassify Zine having been inspired by artist and friend Hayley Stevenson. Hayley encouraged me to explore the sassiness within my own artwork and this led to collaborating with many sassy artists over the years. As I navigated my own queerness each issue of Sassify Zine has reflected that. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with some incredible queer artists to help bring each printed issue of Sassify Zine to life.

I fell in love with zine making as it is a jubilant way to connect with other people and is a great form of escapism. Together we can make fascinating creative discoveries.

For the past four years I have been illustrating, exhibiting my own art, zine making, hosting workshops with Leaming Spa Art Gallery & Museum, Leamington Pride, Proud Youth Leamington, Blossom LGBT, and guest speaking across the UK, including The Royal Academy of Arts, SOAS University of London and TEDx Banbury.
